The Marlington Dukes will venture away from home to challenge the Perry Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Perry will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Marlington extended their winning streak to five on Saturday. The Dukes put the hurt on Triway with a sharp 13-4 win. The Dukes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by nine runs or more this season.
Justine Doringo made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Doringo was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chelsea Miller, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Allison Bailey, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Marlington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Perry). They blew past McKinley 11-1 on Thursday. The Panthers not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2, 2025 (when they won 16-0).
Marlington's record is now 5-0. As for Perry, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Marlington got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Perry by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dukes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
