This season hasn't been kind to the Fort Morgan Mustangs, who are still winless after their 11th match. They were outmatched by Niwot at home and fell 67-35. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Fort Morgan in their matchups with Niwot: they've now lost five in a row.
Fort Morgan lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ava Taylor, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Taylor has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaelynn Ramirez, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Niwot was led to victory by Diya Mehta and Chloe Mitchell. Mehta scored six points along with ten steals, while Mitchell scored 15 points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Mitchell scored 15 or more points. Payton Johnson was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Fort Morgan bumped their record down to 0-11 with that loss, which was their 14th straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.6 points per game. As for Niwot, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Morgan's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Skyline at 5:30 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Skyline focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Thursday. As for Niwot, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northridge at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
