Baseball Recap: Marshall Has No Trouble Against Hastings

Marshall won the last time they faced Hastings and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Redhawks blew past the Saxons 15-3. Considering the Redhawks have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brandon Baker looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Landon Lewis was incredible, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Colin Stealy was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Marshall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hastings only posted an OBP of .364.

The win made it two in a row for Marshall and bumps their season record up to 13-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Hastings, their defeat was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-19.

Looking ahead, Marshall will face off against Harper Creek at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Beavers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Redhawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Hastings, they will venture away from home to challenge Ionia at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Saxons surely won't give up without a fight.
