Mountain Crest and Ridgeline are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will head out to face off against the Riverhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mountain Crest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Mountain Crest nor Sky View made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 9-0 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Mason Smith made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over seven innings pitched. Smith was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Nielsen, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Easton Hendry also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Ridgeline's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Brighton by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Riverhawks have suffered since March 27th.
Ripken Jensen was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Brady Akins was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Mountain Crest is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Ridgeline, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-6.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mountain Crest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Ridgeline struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mountain Crest came up short against Ridgeline in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, falling 5-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
