Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Millbrook

Millbrook waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They took down the West Johnston Wildcats 46-27. Given Millbrook's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while West Johnston is ranked 436th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Millbrook got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Maika Jones out in front who went 7 of 12 on her way to 15 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Jones has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Bardeen, who posted 11 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Millbrook smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive games.

Millbrook has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for West Johnston, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Millbrook and Cleveland will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for West Johnston, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on East Wake at 6:15 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
