It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Marysville Indians ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They managed a 84-80 win over Gridley. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Dennis Syders was his usual excellent self, scoring 37 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The contest was his third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Anthony Walker, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aaron Kullar, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 14 rebounds. Kullar scored a full 33.8% of Gridley's points, the ninth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Travus Boyd, who scored 16 points along with six assists and four steals.
Marysville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Gridley, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Marysville and Sutter will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Sutter comes in on four and Marysville on three. Gridley and Armijo will round out the year against one another at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Armijo is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
