The Gaston Day Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Trinity Academy Tigers at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Gaston Day's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
Gaston Day has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 25 points or more this season. They took their matchup at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 89-61 win over Westchester Country Day. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Gaston Day got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kurt Hunter out in front who scored 21 points. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Deshawn Coulter, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, Trinity Academy came up short against Cary Academy last Friday and fell 58-45. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Trinity Academy has scored all season.
Gaston Day's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 84.4 points per game. As for Trinity Academy, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.
Gaston Day strolled past Trinity Academy when the teams last played back in February by a score of 72-55. Does Gaston Day have another victory up their sleeve, or will Trinity Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
