Even though the Page Pirates have not done well against the Dudley Panthers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Page walked away with a 52-43 victory over Dudley. This was payback for Page, who suffered a 61-59 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Page's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Assyria Hooper, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Sutton Sherrill, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Dudley saw an underclassman step up: Aadriana Moses scored 13 points along with eight steals and five assists. Moses hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Nadia Vonreichbauer, who scored nine points.
Page's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Dudley, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-4.
Page won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Bishop McGuinness at 3:30 p.m. on December 21st. Hopefully Bishop McGuinness focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday. Dudley will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ben L. Smith at 6:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
