The North Eugene Highlanders will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Sunnyslope Vikings at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. North Eugene will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 156th in Oregon, while Sunnyslope is ranked 33rd in Arizona).
Last Tuesday, North Eugene came up short against Crescent Valley and fell 55-48. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for North Eugene in their matchups with Crescent Valley: they've now lost five in a row.
Meanwhile, Sunnyslope struggled with assists last Friday (Xavier College Prep had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Sunnyslope took a serious blow against Xavier College Prep, falling 76-43. Sunnyslope was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-15.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Rayanna Hood, who scored five points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Luba, who scored nine points.
North Eugene now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Sunnyslope, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-3.
