III Section II recap Sept. 26, 2012
Peoria's Darius Aguirre rumbled for the longest rushing play in III Section II this season in his game against Glendale last week. Aguirre scampered for 87 yards on the play and finished with 93 on the day as his team topped the Cardinals.
Liberty extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sunrise Mountain, 56-28. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Lions.
Mark Dogbah was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 28 carries, he ran for 240 yards as Greenway beat the Mustangs. Josh Weaver also contributed to the rushing game with nine yards on the ground.
Robinson was the best wideout in III Section II this week as Dan Filleman's team topped Sunrise Mountain. Robinson tallied seven receptions for 133 yards. Marcus Beckles helped Liberty's passing attack out by catching one ball for 29 yards.
Eric Ruiz put up the best numbers through the air as Verrado fell to Youngker. He finished with a total of 22 completions for 373 yards and three touchdowns. Ruiz's favorite target this week was Chase Spear, who caught four passes for 129 yards.
6-foot-3 quarterback Tyler Rogers of the Lions is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1252. He has also thrown 18 touchdowns. On the ground, the Demons' Dogbah has rushed for 978 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Elroy Masters. The Sunrise Mountain star has 18 catches for 650 yards.
Dogbah of the Greenway is only 22 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Liberty takes on Copper Canyon. The Lions' offense has recorded 290 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Aztecs have permitted only 245 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when James Carter's team takes on Peoria. At the moment, the Mustangs are in second, while Will Babb's team is in seventh.
Shadow Ridge moved up to 91 from 119 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Stallions climbed the ranks as a result of a 51-14 win over Wickenburg.
