Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cheraw). They blew past the Buford Yellow Jackets 77-45 on Tuesday. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-18.
Cheraw was led to victory by Elijah McClain and De'Shaun Drake. McClain went 8 of 15 en route to 21 points, while Drake went 5 for 9 on his way to 13 points in addition to eight assists and eight boards. That's the most points McClain has posted since back in December of 2024. TJ Ford was another key player, going 6 for 12 on his way to 15 points.
Cheraw smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buford only pulled down seven offensive boards.
Buford lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Bryce Bridges, who posted nine points. Another player making a difference was Gage McManus, who scored 15 points and seven rebounds.
Cheraw moved to 8-11 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Buford, they dropped their record down to 4-12 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.
Cheraw wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-42 win against North Central on the 31st. Buford has also already played their next matchup, a 52-36 loss against Richard Winn Academy on the 29th.
