Two dominant signal callers in Joe Fernandez and Kingston Jeffries are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Pebble Hills Spartans will take on the Eastwood Troopers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Pebble Hills put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They blew past Montwood 62-21. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Rams are ranked 731st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Zephaniah Moon went supernova, rushing for 122 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries. Oscar Hernandez also helped out with an impressive 85 receiving yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pebble Hills was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 388 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Another reason for the win was Pebble Hills' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Jaime Ortega was especially locked on to Montwood's QB and sacked him 2.5 times. Ortega also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten.
Meanwhile, Eastwood came tearing into Friday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.2 points), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 49-26 win. With the Troopers ahead 35-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Pebble Hills better keep an eye on Matthew Ramirez. He was instrumental in Eastwood's win, picking up 147 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while also rushing for 114 yards. Ramirez really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 79 yards. Jordan Nava did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 32 receiving yards.
Eastwood's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Pebble Hills, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Pebble Hills has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 187 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Eastwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 238.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Pebble Hills against Eastwood when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 43-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
