Viewmont is 1-6 against Clearfield since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 3:30 p.m. Viewmont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Viewmont will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Roy, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Vikings put the hurt on the Royals with a sharp 12-1 victory last Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Royals: they've now won three in a row.
Ricki Smith was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Raegyn Dahlke, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Viewmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 12.4.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last four matchups, Clearfield finally came back down to earth last Thursday. They fell 5-2 to Bountiful. The Falcons' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Jenna Lloyd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lyla Leonhardt was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Viewmont's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Clearfield, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-4.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Viewmont hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Clearfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .376. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Viewmont might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from Clearfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
