Orem is a perfect 10-0 against Mountain View since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Tigers will welcome the Bruins at 3:30 p.m. Orem is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Orem duked it out with Payson on Tuesday. The Tigers fell just short of the Lions by a score of 8-7. The Tigers have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Kiley Hoshnic spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hannah Maylett made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kate Allred, who went 1-for-5 with one home run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain View). Everything went their way against Provo on Tuesday as they made off with a 22-4 victory. The Bruins haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Brinlee Gillman and Lucy Clark were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Gillman tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Clark pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Gillman scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Clark scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Mountain View got a massive performance out of Emily Telford, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Telford a new career-high. Sophie Stoddard was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Mountain View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are 6-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Orem's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Mountain View, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-9.
Mountain View's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Orem has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Mountain View, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Orem's sizable advantage in that area, the Bruins will need to find a way to close that gap.
Orem took their win against Mountain View in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 26-3 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bruins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
