After flying high against the Mitchell County Eagles last Saturday, the Pelham Hornets came back down to earth. Pelham fell to the Trojans 44-38. It was the first time this season that Pelham let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Pelham had strong showings from Sariyah Chester, who scored 14 points along with two steals, and Truth Wimberly, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 39.5% of Pelham's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Brooks County found their leader in underclassman Imani Hall, who scored 21 points along with two steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hall has scored at least a third of Brooks County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Vinson, who scored eight points.
Pelham's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5. As for Brooks County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pelham won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Bacon County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. As for Brooks County, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Indians at 3:30 p.m. on January 20th. Irwin County is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
