Sumner is a perfect 10-0 against Curtis since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Spartans will square off against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Sumner is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Sumner got the win against North Creek by a conclusive 8-2.
Josslyn Sorensen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bailey Valenta, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Natalie Korschinowski also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Sumner was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Creek only posted a batting average of .167.
Curtis not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9, 2025 (when they won 18-5). They put the hurt on Decatur with a sharp 16-6 win.
Like Sumner, Curtis also got a great game from a two-way player: Emma Foster. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Foster was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kylie Smith was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Adahlia Bosh, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
Curtis' record now sits at 2-3. As for Sumner, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1.
Curtis' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sumner has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Curtis, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 hits. Given Sumner's sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sumner got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Curtis by a conclusive 15-3 score. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
