ENGLEWOOD, Tenn. -
Sequoyah (Madisonville, Tenn.) jumped out to an early lead against
McMinn Central (Englewood, Tenn.) and never looked back on the way to a 20-6 victory on Saturday.
In the first quarter, the Chiefs put up six points. Sequoyah scored on a touchdown pass by
Brett King to
Reuben Abernathy.
After taking the lead on a King touchdown pass to Abernathy in the first quarter, SHS led 14-6 at the half.
The Madisonville school expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. The Chiefs scored once in the quarter on a King touchdown pass to
Garrett Dalton.
McMinn Central's only touchdown came on a 1-yard run in the second quarter.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 38-20 win for Sequoyah.
The win was a nice bounce back for SHS, which lost to Walker Valley last week, 24-21. The defeat comes as a step back for McMinn Central, who notched a 18-15 victory over Boyd-Buchanan in its previous outing.
McMinn Central (1-2) goes up against Grace Christian in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Sequoyah (2-1) locks horns with Lenoir City also in a non-conference game.
