The Lab University Prep Lab Rats came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 83-68 win over Charlotte Elite Academy. Given Lab University Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Soldiers are ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
DeMarco Reynolds was his usual excellent self, scoring 19 points. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kevin Crockett, who scored 12 points.
Several Soldiers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gavin Jones, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. Jordan King was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals.
Lab University Prep has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Charlotte Elite Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.
Lab University Prep will take on the Eagles at TBD on Saturday. NC GBB Academy National knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten games -- so hopefully the Lab Rats like a good challenge. As for Charlotte Elite Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
