Softball Recap: Weslaco East Beats Pace for Their Sixth Straight Victory

Weslaco East entered their tilt with Pace on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They blew past the Vikings 9-2. Considering the Wildcats have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Aubrey Zuniga made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Zuniga was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Avery Cavazos and Alanah Bautista did most of the damage at the plate: Cavazos went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Bautista went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. Those three RBI gave Cavazos a new career-high. Amy Balboa also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Weslaco East lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Weslaco East pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Pace, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.

Weslaco East has already played their next game, a 6-4 win against Mercedes on the 25th. As for Pace, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 15-1 loss against Harlingen South on the 25th.
