After trading leads two times,
Monessen (Pa.) snatched the lead for good when
Chavas Rawlins ran for a touchdown in the second quarter, paving the way for victory over
Fort Cherry (McDonald, Pa.) 49-20.
After taking the lead on a Rawlins touchdown run in the second quarter, the Greyhounds led 29-14 at the half.
Monessen expanded its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS scored two times in the third, including once on a
Javon Brown touchdown run.
Rawlins was the top performer for the Greyhounds. The senior quarterback ran for two touchdowns.
The Rangers'
Kolten Kobrys was the standout player for his team. The sophomore wide receiver caught one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Fort Cherry, which notched a 34-7 victory over California in its previous outing. The loss snapped Fort Cherry's 2-game winning streak. With the win Monessen extended its winning streak to three games.
Fort Cherry (2-1) goes up against Brentwood in a WPIAL A Black Hills game matchup next week, while Monessen (3-0) locks horns with Clairton also in a WPIAL A Black Hills game.
