The Chevak Comets pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 78-55 walloping at the hands of Hooper Bay. While losing is never fun, Chevak can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Warriors are ranked fifth).
Hooper Bay had a senior duo take command as Carson Long scored 31 points and Latrell Lake scored 30 points. Long hasn't dropped below 17 points for nine straight games. Another player making a difference was Jerome Nukusuk, who scored eight points.
Chevak's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Hooper Bay, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-2.
Chevak does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hooper Bay and the Wolfpack will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Unalakleet has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
