The Santana Sultans will square off against the Bonita Vista Barons at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Santana 2.9, Bonita Vista 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Santana is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest victory since March 8th on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Clairemont 3-1.
Ashlyn Darrow spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.
At the plate, Santana's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hailee Powell, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bonita Vista). They put the hurt on El Capitan with a sharp 11-1 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Barons, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Noelle Kalavi looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Bonita Vista got a big performance out of Ariana Magdaleno, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Magdaleno hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Letuli, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Bonita Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Capitan only posted an OBP of .304.
Bonita Vista's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Santana, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
Santana might still be hurting after the 9-1 defeat they got from Bonita Vista when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Sultans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
