The El Segundo Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the South Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Wednesday, El Segundo needed a bit of extra time to put away Torrance. They won by a run and slipped past the Tartars 10-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
El Segundo gave Ava Waters the start and clearly made the right call: she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Waters has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Taryn Walker and Carter Cswaykus did most of the damage at the plate: Walker got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one triple, while Cswaykus went 4-for-6 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave Cswaykus a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marilyn McCaverty, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.
El Segundo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over North on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted since May 7, 2025.
Lilah Cortes spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, South's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brynn Stallings, who went 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
The victory snapped El Segundo's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-13 record. As for South, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. El Segundo hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like South struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
El Segundo suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to South when the teams last played back in April. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
