The San Mateo Bearcats will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Milpitas Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
San Mateo fought the good fight in their overtime match against Capuchino on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 42-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (34), San Mateo still had to take the loss.
San Mateo's loss came about despite a quality game from Gabe Buenrostro, who rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Buenrostro was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards.
Meanwhile, Milpitas ended up a good deal behind Aragon on Friday and lost 36-20. Milpitas has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
San Mateo's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-0 Christopher (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 81% over those games). Milpitas has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.
