The Tunkhannock Tigers will square off against the Holy Redeemer Royals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Tunkhannock has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with nine straight defeats, while Holy Redeemer will come in with five straight victories.
Things were looking good for Tunkhannock after they put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Wyoming Area, falling 16-1.
Tunkhannock saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josiah Parr, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, while Holy Redeemer put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Hanover Area. The Royals were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Hawkeyes. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won four games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Cody Quaglia and Kayden Stevenson did most of the damage at the plate: Quaglia scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Stevenson scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Stevenson has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Hummel, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Holy Redeemer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hanover Area only posted a batting average of .235.
Holy Redeemer's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Tunkhannock, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tunkhannock has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Holy Redeemer struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Tunkhannock came up short against Holy Redeemer in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
