As the high school softball season nears its end,
Marist (Chicago) is making a late push in the MaxPreps Top 25 after winning the Illinois Class 4A state title for the third time since 2012. The RedHawks beat Lincoln-Way Central 3-1 last Thursday, getting a complete game from senior Boston College commit
Abby Dunning, who struck out eight batters and allowed just three hits.
Dunning finished the season with 338 strikeouts and a 0.26 ERA, leading Marist to a 38-1 record puncuated by 15 consecutive wins.
In Pennsylvania,
North Penn (Lansdale) won its first state title since 1985. The Knights beat Haverford 11-0 to bring home the Class 6A crown. Senior
Mady Volpe, a Coastal Carolina commit, did not allow a run over 42 straight innings in her final six games.
The season's final MaxPreps Top 25 rankings will be released Wednesday, June 30.
