The Brentsville District Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Kettle Run Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brentsville District is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
It was a proper cat-fight when Brentsville District faced off against Warren County on Friday. The Tigers blew past the Wildcats 11-4. Considering the Tigers have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Austyn Blankenship looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, Ava Garza and McKenzie Kolesar did most of the damage at the plate: Garza got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Kolesar got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Garza has posted since back in April of 2024. Natalie Marvin was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Brentsville District always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Warren County only posted an OBP of .300.
Kettle Run let Skyline stack four runs on them in the seventh inning on Friday but luckily Kettle Run prevailed anyway. The Cougars skirted past the Hawks 6-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Emerson Golden made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leah Trible, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Risley Hoskins, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Brentsville District pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Kettle Run, their record now sits at 8-6.
Kettle Run's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Brentsville District has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. It's a different story for Kettle Run, though, as they've only averaged .362. Will they be able to contain Brentsville District's hitters?
Brentsville District might still be hurting after the 16-6 defeat they got from Kettle Run when the teams last played back in April. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
