There's no place like home for the Wayne Blue Devils, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Saturday. Everything went their way against Wakefield on Tuesday as Wayne made off with a 61-40 victory. Given Wayne's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Wakefield is ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gavin Redden was the offensive standout of the matchup as he scored 13 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Colson Nelsen was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Wakefield's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Valenzuela, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cael Johnson, who scored 13 points.
Wayne now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Wakefield, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Wayne will head out on the road to face off against Wahoo on Friday. Wahoo has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 233 points over their last three matches. As for Wakefield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Battle Creek at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
