Basketball Recap: Pioneer Extends Winning Streak to Five

Pioneer lost to Triton back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Pioneer Panthers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Triton Trojans, sneaking past 41-38. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Triton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydney King, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 15 points. That's the most points King has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Viers, who posted five points along with eight boards and five blocks.

Pioneer is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. As for Triton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-13.

Pioneer didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-35 victory against Taylor on the 30th. As for Triton, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Caston at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Caston has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
