Softball Game Preview: Mills Vikings vs. Half Moon Bay Cougars

The Mills Vikings will head out to square off against the Half Moon Bay Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mills is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games.

Mills' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 21-0 margin over Terra Nova. Considering the Vikings have won 15 matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Hailey Pedroza looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kalia Woo was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Jazzy Maske was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

Mills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Half Moon Bay challenged Notre Dame on Tuesday. The Cougars came up short against the Tigers, falling 14-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Cougars haven't been shut out since back in April.

Mills' record now sits at 20-3-1. As for Half Moon Bay, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.

Mills took their victory against Half Moon Bay in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
