Basketball Recap: Pace Comes Up Short

Pace was the 53-50 winner over Jay when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The contest between the Pace Patriots and the Jay Royals didn't end well, with the Pace Patriots falling 60-44. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Royals are ranked 80th).

Despite the loss, Pace still got an impressive performance from Grace Manor, who went 7 of 13 en route to 17 points and five assists. That was a full 38.6% of Pace's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Kamryn Lay was another key player, putting up eight points and seven rebounds.

Manor wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Pace was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Jay got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Presley Hawthorne out in front who put up 14 points along with six assists and five boards. That's the most points Hawthorne has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aubreigh Nelson, who earned 16 points and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Pace and nudges their season record down to 11-11. As for Jay, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-2 record this season.

Pace didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 52-35 loss against Florida State University High School on the 28th. Jay has also already played their next contest, a 41-38 defeat against Milton on the 28th.
