Softball Recap: Russell County's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Allen County-Scottsville, Russell County was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Metcalfe County Hornets a 10-0 shutout. The Lakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Addison Hart was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylen McGowan, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Addy Abrell, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Russell County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Metcalfe County only posted a batting average of .000.

Russell County's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-9. As for Metcalfe County, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Russell County will head out to face off against Rockcastle County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Metcalfe County, they will venture away from home to take on Washington County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
