The Regis Groff Fusion will head out on the road to face off against the DSST: College View Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Regis Groff has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while DSST: College View will arrive with six straight victories.
Regis Groff suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Friday. Their tough 83-60 loss to Denver North might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Regis Groff can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 287th, while Denver North is ranked 123rd).
Despite the loss, Regis Groff got a solid performance out of Miguel Morales, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Mahmoud Ibrahim, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, DSST: College View scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 84-65 win over Addenbrooke Classical Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
DSST: College View found their leader in underclassman Joshua Sosa, who scored 17 points along with four steals. Sosa continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alejandro Sandoval, who scored 15 points along with four steals.
Regis Groff's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for DSST: College View, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Regis Groff have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like DSST: College View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Regis Groff's way against DSST: College View when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as Regis Groff made off with a 58-38 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Regis Groff since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
