Two dominant guards in Solomon Lewis and Jordan Exton are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Douglass Eagles will challenge the Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Douglass' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
Last Tuesday, Douglass earned a 73-62 victory over Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North.
Douglass' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lewis led the charge by going 7 of 10 en route to 16 points and six boards. Jelani Lee was another key player, putting up 16 points and five rebounds.
Douglass was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North only racked up 11 assists.
Meanwhile, after only 29 points in their last matchup, Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South made sure to put some points up on the board against Potomac on Tuesday. Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South walked away with a 59-49 win over Potomac.
Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South's win came from a few key players Douglass will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Lincoln Nelson, who posted 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Exton, who scored 11 points along with six assists and three steals.
Douglass pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.7 points per game. As for Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Douglass and Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Douglass hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 70.3 points per game. However, it's not like Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South struggles in that department as they've been averaging 60.5 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Douglass beat Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South 67-56 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Douglass since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
