We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Centennial's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so Calvary Christian Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Centennial fell victim to Jensen Beach and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 1-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.
Armani Estevez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Centennial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Muscerella, who went 2-for-3 with one double. What's more, Muscerella posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Yohalberth Romero also deserves some recognition as he stolen his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Calvary Christian Academy gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Boca Raton by a score of 8-5. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Owen Martinez looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Cole Diehl was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Chase Hamlett was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Calvary Christian Academy now has a winning record of 1-0-3. As for Centennial, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Centennial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Calvary Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
