The Elsberry Indians fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the North Callaway Thunderbirds on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 54-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thunderbirds. Elsberry was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Thunderbirds apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
North Callaway got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Riley Blevins out in front who scored nine points along with seven assists and five steals. Blevins is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abrielle Burgher, who scored 12 points along with five assists.
Elsberry's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-7. As for North Callaway, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elsberry will take on the Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for North Callaway, they will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Wright City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings (they are ranked 407th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 168th).
