Smith Center earned some more postseason success in their contest on Friday. It was a tight game that could have gone either way, but Smith Center made off with a 20-19 victory over Plainville. That's another feather in the cap for Smith Center, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Smith Center senior Jaden Atwood looked sharp as he rushed for 114 yards and one TD on 18 carries. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse senior Jacob Conrad, who racked up 12 tackles.
Plainville's loss came about despite a quality game from senior Jordan Finnesy, who rushed for 123 yards and two TDs on 20 carries. In fact, with 12 tackles Finnesy was a force on both sides of the ball.
The win for the Redmen kept them a perfect 12-0. Plainville's defeat pushes them down to 10-2.
Smith Center will go up against Centralia in continuing playoff action next week. The stakes are high as those two teams are all in, each fighting to extend its postseason success. Plainville's playoff loss brings an end to their season.
