Haughton is 0-10 against the Gators since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Haughton Buccaneers will head out on the road to challenge the Captain Shreve Gators at 7:30 p.m. Haughton has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 29.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Haughton, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 56-39 loss to the Cowboys. While losing is never fun, Haughton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Cowboys are ranked 18th).
Meanwhile, Captain Shreve earned a 60-47 victory over the Tigers on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Captain Shreve.
Captain Shreve's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaron Guinn, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Guinn continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jyrin Sowell was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Haughton has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season. As for Captain Shreve, they have been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.
Haughton was dealt a bruising 61-32 loss at the hands of the Gators when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sowell, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Now that Haughton knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
