The Kennedy Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the McClatchy Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kennedy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
While Kennedy's victory against Cordova wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars skirted past the Lancers 9-7.
Alyssa V spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nina R, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. London D also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Kennedy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cordova only posted a batting average of .259.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when McClatchy faced off against Franklin on Wednesday. The Lions were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Wildcats. Considering the Lions have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jeneyse Morales was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Noelle Chandler, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
McClatchy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. Kennedy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8-1.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kennedy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it's not like McClatchy struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
