The South Mecklenburg Sabres''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They and Myers Park were almost perfectly matched up, but South Mecklenburg suffered an agonizing 32-31 loss. While losing is never fun, South Mecklenburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Myers Park is ranked 26th).
Myers Park can attribute much of their success to RJ Alexander, who rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.5 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Those 168 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Alexander. The team also got some help courtesy of Wendell Thompson, who threw for 150 yards and three touchdowns.
South Mecklenburg's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Myers Park, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.
South Mecklenburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Myers Park also has no future games currently scheduled.
