Discovery is 1-7 against McKeel Academy since November of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Discovery Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the McKeel Academy Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Discovery is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Even though Discovery has not done well against Tenoroc recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Discovery snuck past Tenoroc with a 36-30 win.
McKeel Academy suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. Their rough 43-22 defeat to George Jenkins might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for McKeel Academy in their matchups with George Jenkins: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite their loss, McKeel Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Skyelar Smith, who scored five points along with five rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Smith has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Malayna Sheffield was another key contributor, scoring two points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
Discovery's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for McKeel Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.
Discovery might still be hurting after the 45-21 defeat they got from McKeel Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2023. Can Discovery avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
