Baseball Game Preview: South Bend Saint Joseph Huskies vs. Lakeshore Lancers

The South Bend Saint Joseph Huskies will square off against the Lakeshore Lancers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. South Bend Saint Joseph is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.

South Bend Saint Joseph blew Elkhart out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Elkhart got their revenge. The Huskies fell just short of the Lions by a score of 3-1. The contest marked the Huskies' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Jay Nuber was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, South Bend Saint Joseph saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joe Washburn, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base. Washburn is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games he's played.

Meanwhile, Lakeshore waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Huskies.

Lakeshore's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for South Bend Saint Joseph, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 12-1.
