Basketball Recap: John Paul the Great Academy Comes Up Short

John Paul the Great Academy lost against Word of God Academy back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The John Paul the Great Academy Guardians lost to the Word of God Academy Force at home by a 44-30 margin. The Guardians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, John Paul the Great Academy still got an impressive performance from Evan Sonnier, who posted seven points. Sonnier is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Danny Wyatt was another key player, putting up eight points.

Word of God Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taj Bell, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zyere Cartwright, who scored 14 points.

John Paul the Great Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Word of God Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-4.

John Paul the Great Academy will be playing at home against Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something John Paul the Great Academy surely won't give up without a fight. Word of God Academy has already played their next match (against Shreveport HomeSchool Sports), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
