Basketball Recap: Jemitri Wurtz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Reagan over Brandeis

Reagan lost against Brandeis back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Reagan Rattlers fell just short of the Brandeis Broncos by a score of 60-58. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Rattlers have suffered since December 21, 2023.

Reagan lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jemitri Wurtz, who went 5 for 8 en route to 18 points and three steals. Those three steals gave Wurtz a new career-high. Matt Velasquez was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Brandeis had a senior duo take command as Sean Tisdall went 8 of 17 on his way to 21 points and six boards and Finley Montoya went 7 for 9 en route to 20 points. Tisdall has been hot for a while, having posted 16 or more points the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Garcia, who posted eight points along with nine assists and six rebounds.

With the defeat, Reagan broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-7. As for Brandeis, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-9.

Reagan will face off against SA Roosevelt at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Reagan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55 points per game this season. As for Brandeis, they will square off against Johnson at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Brandeis knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Johnson likes a good challenge.
