The Schalmont Sabres will square off against the Cobleskill-Richmondville Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Schalmont came up short against Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk and fell 8-5. The Sabres haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Luke Iovinella was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Daus, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Cobleskill-Richmondville never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Middleburgh. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.
Brody Becker was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Becker is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
In other batting news, Cobleskill-Richmondville got a massive performance out of Brandon Rotman, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Rotman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elijah Barr, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Schalmont's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4-1. As for Cobleskill-Richmondville, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Schalmont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cobleskill-Richmondville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
