Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Mccool Junction

McCool Junction hadn't done well against Deshler recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The McCool Junction Mustangs enjoyed a cozy 68-51 win over the Deshler Dragons. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

McCool Junction was led to victory by Mapieu Kouchinin and Carson Mcdonald. Kouchinin dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 boards, while Mcdonald went 10 of 18 en route to 23 points and five assists. Kouchinin's evening made it 16 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Gonnerman, who posted eight points and five rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: McCool Junction was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deshler only racked up 12 assists.

Several Dragons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaden Kleen, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 12 points and three steals. Hutch Vacek was another key player, putting up eight points.

McCool Junction's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Deshler, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.

McCool Junction has already played their next match (against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Deshler will head out to face off against Harvard at 8:00 p.m. on January 24th.
