Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Katie Fiso of
Garfield (Seattle) is the 2023-24 Washington MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot senior guard led the Bulldogs to a 21-3 record and fourth straight Class 3A state championship.
For the season, Fiso averaged 24.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game. She shot 60 percent from the field and scored 29 in Garfield's 62-59 win over Mead (Spokane) in the title game.

Garfield went 61-4 during Fiso's final three years in the program with three state titles. The program's fourth crown in the current run came in 2019-20 with the 2020-21 season wiped out due to the pandemic.
Fiso signed with Oregon in November, choosing the Ducks over Arizona, Gonzaga, Oregon State and UCLA among others.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 11. Past selections include 2023 WNBA Most Valuable Player Breanna Stewart (2012) as well as 2023 All-WNBA first team picks Napheesa Collier (2015), Alyssa Thomas (2010) and A'ja Wilson (2014).
