Delta Valley recap Oct. 23, 2012
Franklin extended the longest winning streak in Delta Valley this week by beating Elk Grove, 17-7. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Davis moved up to 333 from 395 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Blue Devils climbed the ranks as a result of beating Laguna Creek 27-0.
Franklin's dynamic duo of Trent Spallas and Dionte Young proved tough for the Thundering Herd to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Spallas threw for 148 yards and Young had 97 yards receiving. Trevon Lampley helped Franklin's passing attack out by catching two balls for 27 yards.
Trey Nahhas was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 30 carries, he ran for 115 yards as Monterey Trail beat Elk Grove. Teammate Elijah McGolthin added to the ground attack by rushing for 54 yards.
Shamar Richmond made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Cardinals fell to Davis. The 5-foot-10 junior grabbed one interception.
6-foot-0 quarterback Isaiah Rios of Grant is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1248. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, Chris Nixon's team's Robert Frazier has rushed for 1182 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Denzel Johnson. The Laguna Creek star has 23 catches for 474 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Thundering Herd take on the Mustangs. As it stands, Elk Grove is in second, while Monterey Trail is in third.
Steve Smyte's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,183 from 4,890. The improvement came about via a 27-0 victory over Laguna Creek last week.
