While Coral Gables' win against Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Coral Gables sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) on Thursday. The Cavaliers haven't had any issues with the Stallions recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Coral Gables got a great performance from Carlos Torres as he tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave Torres a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

At the plate, Jake Wolfson and Timothy Negron did most of the damage at the plate: Wolfson scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Negron scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Those three hits gave Wolfson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alex Carmona, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Tocoi Creek entered their tilt with Gulliver Prep on Monday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 13-8 victory over the Raiders.
The team relied heavily on Brody Eisenhuth, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Wade, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Tocoi Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Tocoi Creek's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Coral Gables, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 4-8-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Coral Gables has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tocoi Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
