After flying high against the Valley Union Blue Devils last Friday, the Morenci Wildcats came back down to earth. Morenci ended up on the wrong side of a rough 54-28 walloping at the hands of Round Valley on Tuesday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Morenci in their matchups with Round Valley: they've now lost seven in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Morenci lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elena Leonard. Despite the final result, she scored ten points along with five steals. Leonard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played.
Morenci struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Round Valley racked up 12 assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Round Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Harli Haws, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Addison Poston, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Morenci has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Round Valley, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morenci will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Tombstone at 5:30 p.m. on January 5th. As for Round Valley, they will challenge St. Johns at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th.
